Fastest response

Emergency Plumbing

Burst pipes, failed flexi hoses and floods. Lead-jointed cast iron and early copper give way quietly after a century, and in a terrace a party wall means the neighbour's problem starts a minute after yours.

Emergency call-outs

Hot Water

Repairs and same-day swaps on gas, electric and continuous flow. In a terrace the question is often whether a replacement can physically reach the courtyard, and we work that out before quoting.

Hot water repairs

Gas Fitting

Licensed gas work with the certificate lodged every time. Houses here have been altered since the Victorian era, so redundant capped points behind plaster are common and worth dealing with properly.

Licensed gas fitting

Taps, Leaks & Burst Pipes

Dripping taps, damp on party walls and burst pipes traced and fixed. On a slope the wet patch is usually well below the actual leak, so we follow the pipe rather than the stain.

Burst pipes & leak repairs

Toilets & Tapware

New toilets, vanities and tapware fitted in one visit, including the narrow original rough-ins in terraces built from the 1860s onwards.

Blocked Drains

Blocked or slow drain? Century-old cast iron narrows from the inside and earthenware joints let roots in. We bring gear that actually fits through a terrace.

What a plumber costs in North Sydney

Very few plumbing sites will commit to a figure. These are 2026 Sydney entry numbers, here so you have something concrete to measure any quote against, ours included. They are the general numbers: what it costs to get someone out and what the market charges by the hour. Pricing for specific work sits on each service page.

01

Getting someone out: $0–$180

Booked here, there is no attendance fee. Arranged another way, a standard Sydney call-out sits toward the upper end of that band.

02

The hourly rate you will be quoted elsewhere: $100–$150

The usual daytime rate in Sydney, and what sits behind most quotes without being stated. We do not charge by the hour, for the reason set out below.

03

After hours, weekends and holidays: $180–$250

The typical after-hours loading in this market. We do not add one: the number agreed before we set out is the number on the invoice.

04

A typical emergency repair: $250–$700

Isolating a burst, clearing a blocked line, making a gas fault safe. Costed as a job rather than as time running from the moment we arrive.

05

Your fixed price: agreed first

Set down in writing before work begins. If the job turns out different once opened up, nothing continues until you have agreed the revised figure.

Two of these figures are the market's, not ours, and they are shown on purpose. An hourly rate measures the plumber's time rather than your problem, and it makes a slow afternoon your expense. We price the work itself, so the number you approve is the number you pay. Where you already know what you need, the real figures live on the blocked drains, pipe relining, burst pipes and leaks, hot water and gas fitting pages.

The difference between a plumber and a licensed plumber.

Anyone can call themselves a plumber. A licensed one carries a NSW licence number, real insurance, and the legal accountability that comes with both, so when a gas job is certified or a repair signed off, it actually means something.

The plumbers who come out here are licensed, insured, and working this side of the bridge every week. Everything is done to code and carries a written lifetime workmanship warranty.

Local area guide

Plumbing in North Sydney

North Sydney was subdivided for terraces from the 1860s onwards, and that single fact decides most plumbing here. Party walls on both sides mean there is no path to the rear of the property, so every tool and every replacement unit comes through the front door. Add ground that falls hard toward the harbour and you get lower levels sitting below the sewer main. From Kirribilli and Milsons Point through McMahons Point and Waverton, a licensed local plumber is minutes away, same-day and 24 hours for genuine emergencies.

Common plumbing problems we see in North Sydney

  • Reactive-clay pipe cracks. There is no side passage in a terrace, so a machine cannot reach the rear and the drain often runs under original flooring. Excavation here is frequently impossible rather than merely expensive.
  • Hot water systems giving out. Sydney's water is soft, so a dead unit here is usually a spent anode or element, not scale. We repair or replace gas, electric, heat-pump and solar, often same day.
  • Ageing galvanised & earthenware pipe. Older homes in Milsons Point, Waverton and Waverton still run on steel and clay pipe that rusts, roots and splits over time.
  • Gas fitting & compliance. Cooktops, heaters and gas lines in older homes often hide non-compliant runs. Our licensed gas fitters bring them up to code and certify on the spot.
  • Strata & apartment plumbing. In a terrace the drain is often shared with next door and the party wall carries water sideways. Establishing where the fault actually sits, in writing, is what stops it becoming an argument.
  • Storm & stormwater backups. Heavy North Sydney downpours overwhelm stormwater pits and back up into yards and under houses.

If you're tied up right now, leave your details and we'll call you straight back as soon as possible.

Still have a question? Licensed plumber van servicing North Sydney
How much does a plumber charge per hour in North Sydney?

Most Sydney plumbers sit around $100 to $150 an hour, but hourly rates hide the real cost. We quote the whole job upfront before we start, so you approve a fixed price with no meter running and no bill shock.

How fast can you get to me in North Sydney?

For genuine emergencies we aim to have a licensed plumber to you within the hour across North Sydney and the surrounding suburbs, day or night, weekends and public holidays included.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

We'll always tell you any call-out or after-hours fee before we come out, so there's never a surprise on the invoice. Book online and we'll waive the standard call-out fee entirely.

How do I know you're a licensed plumber?

Our NSW plumbing licence is 368473C, and you can verify it on the NSW Fair Trading register. Unlicensed plumbing work is illegal in NSW and voids your insurance, so always ask for the number. We put ours on every quote.

My hot water system failed and it isn't that old. Why?

Sydney's water is soft, so unlike harder-water cities it's rarely limescale that kills a unit here. Usually it's a spent sacrificial anode or a failed element, which we can often repair. We'll tell you whether a repair or a replacement is the smarter spend before touching it.

My pipes and drains keep cracking. Is it the ground?

Very likely. Much of North Sydney sits on Less often than out west. Stable ground here means joints open from age and roots rather than soil movement. What decides the repair is access: in a terrace there is no way to get a machine to the pipe at all, which is why we reline rather than dig.

Do you work on heritage and conservation-area homes?

Yes, and it is most of what we do. These streets carry conservation areas and terraces dating from the 1860s. We work within what that housing allows: no side access, original floors, narrow rough-ins and century-old earthenware, without cutting corners or marking the place up.

My terrace shares a drain with next door. Whose problem is it?

It depends where the fault sits, not whose fixture noticed first. Shared and boundary drains are normal in housing of this age, and the camera is what establishes the position. We hand over the footage and a written finding, because a conversation with a neighbour goes very differently with evidence than with two opinions.

What areas around North Sydney do you cover?

The whole North Sydney LGA and every suburb around it: Waverton, Milsons Point, McMahons Point, Lavender Bay, Waverton, Wollstonecraft, Crows Nest, Artarmon and more.

Hot water systems we service and replace

Hot water is our most frequent call, and in this housing the field narrows quickly. Continuous flow dominates the terraces because a wall unit fits a courtyard where a cylinder will not. Repairing and replacing hot water systems is most of what we do here, and we are straight about what each job costs and the age at which a unit stops being worth fixing.

We service and replace these systems as an independent licensed plumber. We are not an agent for, or endorsed by, any of these manufacturers.
